A GWR Castle Class Locomotive Chimney off "7000 -VISCOUNT PORTAL" Acquired Cashmore's Scrap yard Great Bridge for £10.00 in 1964. The original buyer was visiting the yard and noticed the loco being scrapped and approached the foreman to ask if he could buy the chimney , while waiting it was burnt off and just left to fall on the floor which caused it to fracture, hence the welding work noticeable on the chimney today. Another rare survivor.

Brass Oval Steam Locomotive Worksplate. As carried by Loco No 1163. "CONTRUCTED AT ASHFORD WORKS BY S.E. & C.R". It was a reboilered E Class 4-4-0, classified E1 after rebuilding by Beyer Peacock. Built at Ashford in April 1909, the first of the E1s to be withdrawn, in May 1949 from Bricklayers Arms, never receiving a B.R. number. A Most unlikely surviving Worksplate, and especially as the number on the reverse is technically incorrect. The loco was scrapped at Ashford Works sometime in 1949. |
