Lot 115 | Brass Steam Locomotive Nameplate POLAR STAR. As carried by a Churchward designed GWR 'Star' 4000 Class 4-6-0 No. 4005 built at Swindon works in February 1907. Allocations included only Plymouth Laira and Old Oak Common from where it was withdrawn in November 1934. Cut up at Swindon works on a date not recorded. The Star class of locomotive was a perpetuation of the names of earlier broad gauge locomotives from 1838. This locomotive was involved in the exchange trials between the LNWR and the GWR in August 1910. |
