Lot 315 | London, Chatham & Dover Railway 18in Fusee Drop Dial Clock No. 1296.S.E. Mahogany case with chisel base. Supplied just prior to 1900 and the time of the merger with the South Eastern Railway to Sittingbourne station. Remarkably the clock escaped the attentions of receiving a new BR(S) dial by John Walker on nationalisation and has thus retained its S.R lettered dial received at the time of the Grouping - now something of a rarity. The back of the case, which stands 3ft tall, is also stamped '1296 SE'. The roundhead extends above the backcase by a further 4in. The clock comes with a letter sent by John Walker to the vendor's father in 1973, confirming that the clock 'was last repaired by me in 1965'. Further annotation relates to the clock being fully overhauled and with a new spring fitted in March 1985. Not tested. Complete with pendulum and winder. A large and impressive clock. |
