Description
Alloy Steam Locomotive Smokebox Headboard THE HOOK CONTINENTAL. A named train that ran between London Liverpool Street and Harwich Parkeston Quay where it connected with the night ferry to the Hook of Holland. Introduced as a named express by the LNER in 1927. As foot passengers declined with the growth in car ownership the service was discontinued in May 1987. The rear of the plate is handpainted ‘RETURN TO STRATFORD’ plus the usual engraved references to other named trains. From the collection of the late B.D.J Walsh, Founder and President of the Great Eastern Railway Society and also the Founder and President of the East Anglian Railway Museum (which has a B.D.J Walsh Heritage Centre in his honour). An uncommon plate that has been with the family for over half a century in ex-service condition.
