Southern Railway C/I Signal Box Lever plate ’12 WHARF ROAD DOWN SIDE OR DOWN SIDINGS TO LIFT BRIDGE STARTING, NIL OR B’. The ‘Lift Bridge’ refers to the Deptford Lift Bridge, situated half a mile from New Cross station that carried the Deptford Wharf branch line over the Grand Surrey Canal. It was raised by 10ft to allow barges to use the canal. The bridge is now disused and welded shut in the down position. Ex-service condition.
