Auction Catalogue
C.R.A. - 27th to 29th October 2023

Welcome to our 15th online telephone/email auction, which runs from Friday 27th October until Sunday 29th October 2023.

How to bid

Prospective bidders for items in the catalogue (below) need to register with us either via telephone (01242 620020 / 07836 225711) or email (office@railwayana.com or office@gwr1.com) preferably before the first auction day of 27th October 2023, although registrations can be taken throughout the three days.

You will be allocated a unique 'PB' number (postal bidder) in order that you can trace the status of your bid online through the weekend's regular updates.

If emailing to register, please provide your name, full postal address and a contact telephone number and we will confirm your registration by return.

Previous customers who already have a 'PB' number may use the same number, when re-registering or showing an interest to bid.

Bidders can either leave a firm bid or a 'bid range from x to y', which can be activated on your behalf throughout the auction period, should circumstances not allow you to personally engage with us during the sale. Bidding increments are £10 up to £500; £20 up to £1,000 and £50 £1,000 plus. Please note there are no £5 increments in our sales.

Email bids are accepted any time during the three-day duration and telephone calls can be accepted between 10am-8pm on the first two sale days (Friday and Saturday) - and up to 6pm on the third day (Sunday). Thereafter emails only on Sunday between 6pm-8pm. Any emails timed at arriving at our office after 8pm on Sunday 29th October will be invalid.

Please allow 48 hours after the end of the sale for the final realisation list to be posted, whilst we reconcile all bids, prior to making email enquiries regarding successful bids. If you are interested in any 'non-sold' items on the realisation list, please also allow 48 hours before emailing, i.e October 31st.

As per our Terms & Conditions: Buyers pay the Hammer Price and a Buyer's Premium of 15% of the Hammer Price plus VAT on the Hammer Price = 18% total.

Payment

Payments may be made by bank transfer, cheque (payable to Railwayana Auctions UK Ltd or 'RAUK Ltd' is acceptable) or cash on collection. Sorry, we cannot accept credit cards.

Collection of Lots

Winning bidders are invited to collect their items from the auction's business premises by prior appointment at a mutually acceptable time slot during our normal business hours of 10am-5pm. This must be undertaken no later than 14 working days (Monday to Saturday) following the close of the auction.

Collection of Lot/s will not be released until all funds have been cleared.

Due to feedback by collector's experiences in dealing with couriers and dispatch houses 'hidden costs', we offer an insured 'goods in transit' delivery service AT COST to all parts of the UK with our regional agents. We can use Royal Mail for postage if you require, which will include a standard charge for packing of small items (minimum £10 + VAT, multiple items £20 + VAT) in addition to postal fees. Tracked and insured items at cost undertaken if required.

Consignments for future auctions can also be made via this service, saving on your postage/courier costs and peace of mind against third party abuse of your valued items. This ensures that the benefit for collectors is that your consigned items both arrive with us and are delivered and collected in a safe manner.

We look forward to hearing from you if you are considering consigning items for our forthcoming main auction in March 2024.

We provide free valuations for sales, insurance purposes and probate. Transport and storage capabilities of clearing large collections at short notice in difficult times of losing loved ones. For advice and sympathetic guidance, call the auction team on 01242 620020 or 07836 225711, email office@gwr1.com

Special Charity Lot Included - Pines Express HST Headboard

On 26th September 2023 Modern Railways and CrossCountry joined forces to organise a charity railtour to mark the withdrawal of CrossCountry's HSTs after 41 years' service.

Proceeds from the 'Pines Express' special service from Leeds to the Swanage Railway will go to the Brain Tumour Charity, in memory of former Cross Country colleague Jo Taylor.

Over 700 passengers enjoyed the day. Proceeds from the sale of this commemorative headboard, specially made for this one-off trip, will be added to the total raised for this very worthy cause.

We would like to thank Neil Booth of UK Railwayana Auctions Crewe for helping to raises funds for this charity.

Auctioned without charging any commission ..... "See Lot No. 446A - what you bid is what you pay".

London, Chatham & Dover Railway 18in Fusee Drop Dial Clock No. 1296.S.E. Mahogany case with chisel base. Supplied just prior to 1900 and the time of the merger with the South Eastern Railway to Sittingbourne station. Remarkably the clock escaped the attentions of receiving a new BR(S) dial by John Walker on nationalisation and has thus retained its S.R lettered dial received at the time of the Grouping - now something of a rarity. The back of the case, which stands 3ft tall, is also stamped '1296 SE'. The roundhead extends above the backcase by a further 4in. The clock comes with a letter sent by John Walker to the vendor's father in 1973, confirming that the clock 'was last repaired by me in 1965'. Further annotation relates to the clock being fully overhauled and with a new spring fitted in March 1985. Not tested. Complete with pendulum and winder. A large and impressive clock.

Guide: £800-1200
